Monkeys at Gibralter
The Apes on the rock were sooo funny. The most amazing thing to me was that there were no cages - no bars keeping you from the monkeys. If a monkey happened to need a stooping, camera-using tourist's back as a stepping stone across a path, the ape would do so. We had laugh after laugh at their tourist scaring, food eating, lice picking antics.
Prices at the shops were outrageously high, running almost double what we have met elsewhere in southern europe. In the gift stores on the rock a t-shirt sells for $26, a book on the Great Siege for $45, and a magizine for $9. Eeep!

I too, loved the barbary apes, whom we visited on the constellation transatlantic. I loved them even though they stole from me. Found the prices on luxury items in Gibraltar to be excellent!

My mom got bit by one of these apes yesterday, just standing near it with no food and no teasing!

I just got back from Gibralter and would ask anyone who wants to visit the Apes to be very careful. They bit at least two people when I was there. These people did nothing to provoke them in the least, they were just walking and were ambushed. Definately don’t go up the trail to the highest point above the cable car stop along the desolate steep trail. The apes will get pissed and attack you. I think this area is over touristed and is under no supervision from anyone to prevent the tourists from feeding the apes and doing all kinds of other things that they should not be doing. These guys need their space, so respect them.
